Praise for Cobweb Bride
“. . . Nazarian writes clean and true prose . . .”
—Publishers Weekly
“Set in an alternate Renaissance Europe, this series opener by Russian-born Nazarian combines the stylistic manner of a folktale with the trappings of an epic fantasy, one driven by compassion rather than heroics. . . . Fans of period fantasy and those who like stories that feel like fairy tales should appreciate this skillful novel by the twice Nebula Award-nominated author of Dreams of the Compass Rose and The Duke in His Castle.”
—Library Journal
“I really enjoyed the rich, complex and highly unusual storytelling in the Cobweb Bride. Nazarian does an excellent job of painting the Renaissance world of her alternate reality and bringing in interesting twists of fantasy to the story. . . . Everything about this story that was fresh and new. I loved the premise it was built on and I loved the story itself. The characters are rich, multi-dimensional, and so easy to get to know and identify with. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy when it comes out and in finding out more about what happens to the characters that still have a mission to carry out and how the story eventually resolves by the end of the trilogy. I recommend this book to readers of YA, lovers of fantasy, alternate-history, and alternate-reality. It was a terrific read.”
—Tracy M. Riva, Midwest Book Review
“Cobweb Bride is astonishing and captivating; a lush fantasy of imagery and magical realism. The visuals are illustrated by the author’s lyrical and metaphoric writing. Every chapter and scene revels in this mortal coil, surrounded by an expansive collage of characters immersed in a plot as rich and decadent as a Verdi opera. . . . The vibrancy of Ms. Nazarian’s writing is sheer kaleidoscopic visualization. The folkloric-fable twists and turns recount shavings from the mythos of Hades and Persephone without boring you with a full-blown serving of predictability. The romance is as subtle as it is grim, with glimmers of hope taking us further to our doom—perhaps. . . . The overall tone is introspective, hauntingly quiet with elements of horror-fantasy that are as provocative as the works of Tanith Lee and Storm Constantine.”

Cobweb Bride The Complete Trilogy 3Book Boxed Set eBook Vera Nazarian
I bought the trilogy after reading the first book free as a monthly prime option. Could not put this series down. The primary characters were a bit too "perfect" in nature, but I was strangely pleased that Percy was of common, maybe even less than average appearance. She made for a wonderful struggling heroine. The extreme pathos of grappling with life and death matters, as well as human and "divine" weaknesses, made this a story to laugh, cry, and muse over. While not excessive, the typos and editing issues were vexing. If you're a natural proofreader, these inaccuracies tend to pull you out of the story momentarily. That may be a good thing as it is easy to get lost on this epic journey through a fantasy Realm and Domain (and Underworld).Product details

Cobweb Bride The Complete Trilogy 3Book Boxed Set eBook Vera Nazarian Reviews
But being an epic it does start a little slow. It does have some flaws of epic as some times the characters do drone on but this is forgivable.
As I posted on the first books separately (not knowing there was going to be a boxed set in my future), I shan't go into great detail here-- suffice it to say that this is as good, and as original, a fantasy as I have read in a long time.
Ms. Nazarian, keep writing!!!
Loved the first book, found the second slow, pace picked up again in the third book although not quite up to book #1 standards. I enjoyed reading it, and rate this as pretty well done. Not easy to rework fairy tales but the author did a decent job. I just think it could have been done better in two books, tightening it up. This insistence on stories in trios is getting tiresome.
Nazarian gives us a new twist on the familiar "Death Takes a Holiday" theme. Her narrative touches on angles that had never occurred to me, which was a delightful surprise. The protagonist is fleshed out pretty well, and the supporting cast and parallel storylines kept my interest. "Cobweb Bride" met my most difficult test I bought the series because I could not bear not knowing how the series would develop.
I might have given this five stars except for two things. First, I found the typos (rare, thankfully) to be distracting. Second, in getting to the third book, I realized the "deus ex machina" plot device was going to tie up all the loose strings. It is true that it did, but is also true that it was done in a way I didn't expect.
There is are a lot of explanatory speeches in each of the three books explaining what and why things are happening. Some of these were quite long, but they imparted a lot of necessary information. They just slowed down the action when they happened.
Good for a YA or adult read. The storyline was original while borrowing from historical myths. I found it quite enjoyable and sometimes hard to put down.
Wonderful books. The writing gets stronger and more sure in each book. Very original concept and characters. I found once I got into the story, be patient for the first 80 pages or so, it became more and more intriguing and compelling. Ms Nazarian has a way of bringing intricate stories with multiple characters to life and weaving them in an intricate web. Mix an unusual and unconventional heroine with a knight in shining, er, I mean, black armor, with an entire w multiple sub-orld of Olympian gods brought to vibrant life, and a world history slightly off kilter and you have the makings of a splendid historical fantasy. The author has a way of bringing multiple sub-stories together. Details you never thought much about come back to play pivotal roles later on. Ms. Nazarian is one of my favorite authors.
Vera Nazarian may use a few more descriptive words for her novels than pop fiction, but they only aide in filling out a semi-foreign fantasy land. I was drawn into her world easily and enjoyed that she eventually got to the perspectives of nearly every character, so that by the end of the trilogy every plot is wrapped up. Here is a cliffhanger at the end of book 1 that will make you VERY GLAD you purchased this as a set. This series starts out kind of like a young adult coming of age novel, but some content in the third book puts it at an adult content level. Best for older teens and up in that respect. If you know the Greek myth of Persephone and traditional fantasy epics that center around a journey you will enjoy this very much.
